Transportation

During my architectural internship I worked on airport design and transportation planning. This included the design and planning of a new International Terminal at the Vancouver International Airport, YVR.

For the new ‘West Chevron’ wing, we focused on the feelings of departure and arrival, and the importance of place, of Vancouver as a gateway to the west and now all destinations. We designed and modeled the truss system based on the structure of small watercraft, and created biomorphic leaf-like supports, to ground the experience in the way we experience nature on the coastal Pacific Northwest. The user creates their own journey, yet the structure grounds the experience, acting as a way-finding guide.

It is important to note that Vancouver, BC, is located on unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. The term "unceded" recognizes the dispossession of the land and the rights of these peoples to the territory. It also serves as a reminder that these peoples have never left their territories and will always retain their jurisdiction and relationships with the territory.

YVR sits on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam people.
